Poppy Seed  Torte
Zehava

6 eggs-separated

200gr butter  ( or 100gr. butter and 4oz apple sauce)

1 cup sugar

2 TBS flour+ 2 tsp baking powder

3 TBS brandy

200gr. Ground poppyseeds. ( i grind it in coffee grinder- fine)

 

Topping:

100gr.bittersweet chocolate

1tsp instant coffee,mixed in 

3 TBS water

4 TBSsugar

25gr butter

Wip egg whites with 1/2 cup sugar till stiff.

Mix butter w/  1/2 cup sugar, add the yolks, brandy, flour. add poppy till blended. Add above to whites gently. Pour into a well greases and floured pan. Bake at 350 about 40 min. melt chocolate in a double boiler. Add the rest, butter at the end, mix well. Put on cooled cake.

Another Option:

6 eggs

1 cup sugar

2 TBS olive oil

1 TBS brandy

2 TBS flour ( or bread crumbs) 

1 tsp baking powder 

100 gram walnuts cut into small pieces

100 grams peeled and cut apple

200 grams poppy seeds ( about 2 cups) I blend till fine in coffee grinder.

 

mix eggs and sugar about 10 minutes

add carefully the rest and fold in

pour into oiled pan and bake at appx 350 *F about 35 min, till tooth pick comes out clean.
